Twitter Food Diary

This little idea comes from two random thoughts/bits of information that collided last night randomly. While migrating some stuff from old laptop to new, I was thinking about how I haven’t really been fully bitten by the twitter bug (but I have tried) while simultaneously reading a snippet about how those who keep food diaries eat much healthier than those that don’t.

Being someone who has softened up a bit since college due to a dramatic decrease in physical activity (I played on the men’s soccer team in college and therefore worked out at least 2 hours per day, now I work out maybe an hour per week), and increase in appetite and access to tasty foods, it struck me that twitter might make for a great way to keep a food diary. Easy and quick posting, right at the time of consumption, right to a chronologically sorted storage area online.

I’m sure someone has done this before, but now so am I. You can follow my progress (thrilling I know), and mock my food intake, at http://twitter.com/whatamieating

Overexposed…Twice

As if the incident itself wasn’t embarrassing enough, the record of this incident is now the first result in Google for a search of this woman’s name.

Svetlana Magee, 33, of 1 Ledgemere Road, Apt. 1, Brighton, was arrested on May 16 at her residence after allegedly standing on her porch, exposing her genitals while yelling “Everyone [expletive] me!” A witness reported that the suspect also allegedly exposed her genitals the day before. Magee was arrested for open and gross lewdness.(via here)

Twitter Is For Nerds, And Don’t You Forget It

Sometimes us web nerds forget that there is a whole other world of normal people out there. We think everyone uses Twitter, browses in FireFox, and wants an iPhone. The truth is, these are mainly just wildly popular things within our little nerd world.

Of some 850+ users that answered this poll earlier in the week, 93% don’t even know what twitter is.

This is one of the reasons I really enjoy Quibblo. We can throw polls up there on anything we want, and get some interesting quick data from our users. Now bear in mind that the users are heavily tween to teen, but it still is cause for pause the next time that you think “everyone uses twitter”.

Facebook or MySpace + Twitter. Why Not?

Why doesn’t Facebook, or even Fox Interactive (MySpace) buy Twitter? As far as I know and can tell, Twitter makes no money today. Though there are rumblings of some different ways that they *could* monetize their services, nothing seems to have materialized just yet. So as of now…no revenue.

However, Twitter has a lot of passionate and addicted users.

And of course MySpace and Facebook are battling it out for users and for social network supremacy.

And lastly, both MySpace and Facebook have “status” features that are essentially little Twitters within their respective networks.

Am I missing something here, or is this just too logical an acquisition to make sense? Seems like a no-brainer to me.
