My First DSLR Camera

After breaking my second expensive point and shoot camera in as many years, I have decided that it is time to do what I have been wanting to do for a while now, and move to a DSLR. Aside from being slightly more bummed when I smash this camera too, I am hoping that with this new purchase I can start to become a bit of a better photographer with some new, and slightly more sophisticated equipment.

Though my friend Duncan made a good point, saying something along the lines of “sometimes getting an SLR can make you take worse photos, due to the desire to tinker with settings you know nothing about” (I am paraphrasing), I am hoping to learn enough of the basics to actually make it a worthwhile purchase.

While I wait for the camera to arrive on Monday, I have been watching some great little tutorials over at DSLR Tips, which has some great information on how to use your DSLR camera effectively. As someone that is not one to sit with an instruction manual for hours, short instructional videos that show me how to get some of the more common desired effects, are right up my alley.

Check the tutorials out here, and hopefully if you are a hack DSLR user like me, you will find them valuable. I know I have so far.

Once I get some photos taken, and put my newfound knowledge to work, I’ll post some results and you can judge the results for yourself.
