I admit it, I use the gay little status updates on Facebook, and I even do it from my Blackberry (because I AM SO COOL). However, using this little update feature out of boredom while waiting for my train to leave, or food to be ready is one thing. Starting a facebook group and petitioning facebook to remove the “is” from the string is another.
We can’t stand the fact that Facebook forces you to use the word “is” in your status update. Join this group to tell Facebook to remove “is” from status updates. No more “John Smith is wanting ice cream”. Instead, the much easier and nicer: “John Smith wants ice cream”.
My suggestion is that they remove these 160,000 people from Facebook with a few clicks from out there in Palo Alto, and change the “is” to “is whining about” and then append “on facebook” to the end.
For instance:
Andrew is whining about the anti-”is” nits on facebook
I hate the internet.

I think I’m a member of this group. I really hate the ‘is’, particular since it makes me feel even more like I’m acting like Bob Dole. It would be awesome if they just let it be free-form like the microblogs so I could stop referring to myself in the third person, but for now I would love it if they got rid of the is.
