Hottest Boston News Women – 2007

It’s awards show season, and you know what that means! Time for me to pick the nominees for the Hottest Boston News Woman of the year, and for you to vote on them. We have a good crop this year, so scan/ogle them all closely, and then vote for your favorite at the bottom of the page.

As usual, this year’s winner will receive nothing more than the slightly creeped-out feeling, that people actually vote on things like this.

And without further ado, the nominees for this year’s Hottest Boston News Woman:

Christa Delcamp – WHDH 7

Helio Promotes Sexual Harassment

Something about this promo strikes me as a bit wrong. Here are the steps as I see it.

  • Select Scenario: Work
  • Select Gender: Male
  • Select Lecherous Double-Entendre:I’ve got this huge doc, and I could really use your help getting it to fit inside the margins.
  • Send To Co-Worker via handy SMS form.

Sexual Harassment 2.0

Sounds like a great idea. Nothing could possibly go wrong here.

Other potential post headlines that didn’t make the cut:

“Sexual Harassment 2.0″
“Is That A Helio In Your Pocket?”

2007 MTV VMA’s, A Post-Mortem

Since catching the MTV VMA’s this week, I have had a lot of thoughts and feelings on MTV and the state of pop culture and the media landscape. Unable to properly formulate these thoughts and feelings into a coherent and meaningful post on my own, I sent an unsolicited email to Noah Brier and just got a little email dialog going on on the subject.

I knew Noah would have some interesting thoughts on the matter as well, and I was right. Some of the exchange is posted over on his site if you are inclined to read what two aging (in internet and pop culture terms) new media nerds think about the whole thing.

And of course, a poll.

Red Sox Signed Baseballs (1955 and 1964)

I finally got around to recording all of the names on two signed baseballs that have been in my family for over fifty years. Both came to me from my dad, via my grandfather, and both of them are extremely cool pieces of memorabilia.

The first, is a beat up (perhaps BP used?) ball, signed by 10 or so of the 1955 Boston Red Sox, including my all-time favorite Red Sox player, Ted Williams.

Probably worth a few hundred dollars based on that signature alone, the ball also is signed by Harry Agganis, which is perhaps an even rarer signature, given that Agganis died suddenly at age 26 after playing less than 2 years in the major leagues.

In addition to the 1955 ball, there is a second ball signed by nearly all of the 1964 team, including signatures from Carl Yastrzemski and Tony Conigliaro (another tragic figure), though both of those signatures are sadly faded to nearly un-readable levels.

There are some more photos of the balls here, which have since returned to a lock box, safe from the light and other potential damaging elements.

And for what it’s worth, looks like my estimate of a few hundred bucks might have been low. Not that it really matters, these are not balls that I ever plan on selling anyways.
