Minnesota Bridge Collapse

While watching the news last night, I was awed by the footage of the Minnesota bridge collapse (particularly the video…which is unreal). Aside from the general horror that comes with watching something like this, I thought about Flickr. More specifically, that Flickr was where I wanted to go tomorrow, and look for photos of this tragedy.

Minnesota Bridge Collapse

It wasn’t about being a tragedy junkie (which I definitely am not), but it was about thinking where I could go to get the best, most unfiltered, real images and feel for what happened there. I wanted to get outside of the traditional news filter and get a sense of the scope of the event…and even though I AM a new media junkie, it was one of the first times where I was watching traditional media for hard news, and really had the conscious thought that a new media outlet was going to be a much better place to get what I wanted.

And it was. More here on the bridge collapse from Flickr.

I personally have always felt safe on major roadway bridges. Have you?

Invitation Design And Graphic Design

I got an email from Gina today, asking me for some help moving around domains and what not. Seems as though she is shedding the ginagraphics persona, and taking up a new home at gindedom.com. Same services, just in a new digital place.

While doing a couple of quick tasks on the tech side, I took a whirl through her portfolio and was reminded of just how amazing her work is. Long story short, if you are in need of birth announcements, wedding invitations, layout work, logo and identity services, or anything of the sort, definitely put her at the top of your list. She works amazingly hard, has very reasonable prices, and puts out just fantastic quality stuff.

Spinvox Is So _____ For Voicemail

I love Spinvox, I really do. For someone like me, who NEVER checks voice mail, it is a perfect service. I redirect my unanswered calls to a Spinvox number, and my voice mails are transcribed to text and sent to me via email. Since I get my email on my blackberry, it works perfectly. However, since the messages are human transcribed (in the UK I believe), they often have trouble with non standard, proper nouns like names and places. These errors and their general inability to transcribe certain words is certainly funny, but in many cases, they end up rendering the service completely useless. I get a lot of uselessly translated voice mails like the one below, and when I say useless, you can see what I mean.

What the? This could go in so many different directions.

“Hey, it’s your mother. Call me I am being chased by ninjas. Bye.”

“Hey, it’s Tuesday. Call me I am pregnant. Bye.”

“Hey, it’s the doctor. Call me I have your test results and you have an hour. Bye.”

“Hey, it’s Jessic Alba. Call me I am in love with you. Bye.”

As I said, I do get a fair amount of these, so maybe I will start posting them a bit more. They are pretty hilarious. To me anyways.
