While watching the news last night, I was awed by the footage of the Minnesota bridge collapse (particularly the video…which is unreal). Aside from the general horror that comes with watching something like this, I thought about Flickr. More specifically, that Flickr was where I wanted to go tomorrow, and look for photos of this tragedy.

It wasn’t about being a tragedy junkie (which I definitely am not), but it was about thinking where I could go to get the best, most unfiltered, real images and feel for what happened there. I wanted to get outside of the traditional news filter and get a sense of the scope of the event…and even though I AM a new media junkie, it was one of the first times where I was watching traditional media for hard news, and really had the conscious thought that a new media outlet was going to be a much better place to get what I wanted.
And it was. More here on the bridge collapse from Flickr.
I personally have always felt safe on major roadway bridges. Have you?
