Louis CK - Shameless

When his HBO special “Shameless” came out, I quickly added Louis CK to my short list of favorite stand-up comedians (others are Jerry Seinfeld, Jon Stewart, and the late Mitch Hedberg). I never got into Lucky Louie when it was on, but ended up falling for Louis CK’s standup material face first. Not sure how I missed him for so long, given that he is a Boston guy, but I did. Anyways, I am glad I found him.

His delivery is brilliant, his jokes are hilarious, and his style is just perfect. He talks about regular guy stuff, and watching his act is a lot like sharing beers with your funniest friend. Definitely heavy on the profanity and the wife and kid routines, but somehow the way he delivers it all makes it genuinely funny, and not like some others who are shocking merely to be shocking.

The clip below is from that HBO special, and is just awesome from start to finish. Lots and lots of profanity, so if you are at work, or if there are kids around, this is a definite headphone situation, but it is worth it.

And this guy is not a one act pony so to speak, I saw Louis at the Comedy Connection in Boston this past spring, right on the heels of his HBO special, and he did all brand new material…and it was just as good as the old stuff. He is back here in Boston this November, and I have no plans to miss it.

I saw his stand up and have liked him for a while, but I think you should give his show another chance, Lucky Louie IMO was a pretty solid sitcom.
