Hey Boston.com, Do This

Like many people, I am frequently poking around on craigslist for hired help, apartments, open houses, gadgets, etc…and like many people (I assume), I just type the following URL into my browser:

http://boston.craigslist.com

Except that about 50% of the time, in my haste, I type THIS into my browser:

http://craigslist.boston.com

As you probably noticed, the latter goes to a dead page. Not even a custom 404 page, but a truly dead page. No big deal to me really…it just costs me a few extra seconds to go back and correct the typo. However, this is a great opportunity for Boston.com to do something smart, and pick up some traffic from what I would imagine is a pretty common mis-type.

Boston.com should simply set a redirect on their servers, to send users who type in http://craigslist.boston.com, to http://www.boston.com/classifieds/ and get some free (and highly targeted for that matter) traffic.

You’re welcome Boston.com. A 50% rev share on advertising revenue gained from this redirect should suffice as a consulting fee on this one.
