Another Top 50
Yes, it’s that time of year when semi-legitimate media outlets drop their “top 50 ___’s of the year” lists, and completely illegitimate media inlets like me, sort them, filter them, and pass them along. This one, via YesButNoButYes, from the crazy, indie loving, Danes over at DOCOPENHAGEN, is pretty impressive.
It is the top 50 videos of the year, and has a decidedly non-mainstream lean. Some great ones in there from personal faves The Decemberists, Arcade Fire, Interpol and others. Check it here.
Metropolitan Club In Newton
I heard about this place from a co-worker a few weeks back and was just now reading some of the early reviews. So far so good, with the main knock being the price, and occasional bad service…but overall it seems to be getting pretty positive feedback. I mean, anytime a swank steakhouse opens its doors within the town/city you live in, it is a must try (at least once). I’d love to check this out sometime before the new year and of course will post a full review if and when I do.
The restaurant is curtained and carpeted like an old-time steak house, but keeps some of the clatter of a loud bar. Our table may have been worse than most, but sound echoed from the walls, windows, and ceilings such that we could not always understand the servers. The background music, when we could hear it, was light jazz.
The Metropolitan Club is big, smooth, and expensive, with flashes of wit. It does not concede anything to its suburban location, and has already attracted some of the well-heeled crowd it is intended to serve. (more)

These were accidentally removed when I changed hosts over the summer, and I never restored them. They are back again, and if you like genuine old photos, these are worth a look.
