Google Blog Search

Via Marketing Vox.

I tried this out, but was so far unimpressed. To test it, I searched for a term that was on my blog some time ago, that created a bit of blog nuttiness, and that at least I thought, was a good study in track-backs, link-backs, and the flow of information through the blogsphere.

The term was “I’d Hit It“, which when searched via regular Google, the results are as expected.

Searched through Google Blog Search.

Searched through Google Blog Search in quotes.

Clearly something is a little wacky, as Google KNOWS these pages exists, and they are almost all on blogs, but Google Blog Search doesn’t seem to find them. Even weirder, is when I search using quotes, Google Blog Search finds about 10 straight pages of nothing but LiveJournal URL’s. What gives?

My number one with a bullet question is how does Google Blog Search know what is a blog and what isn’t? Obviously Livejournal, Blogger, and hosted Typepad blogs are the easy ones…the evidence is right in the URL. But what about the Wordpress, or MT blogs? Or any other blogish site that doesn’t have the ‘tells’ that might easily mark it as a blog, suitable for inclusion in the Google Blog Search?

PS…I hate posting about Google, and this may or may not be some foreshadowing into my newest undertaking…

I can only assume they go off feeds, rather than web sites – and as feeds usually don’t carry as much historical information as the web sites then your older post hasn’t been indexed (although you now come up for “I’d Hit It” for this post…)
