Web 2.0 – Worcester Style

Who would have thought? An groundswell of media and web activity in Worcester. And cool stuff too…not bullshit fluff. And people are taking notice.

Is it possible that the city better known for crappy diners, backwards politics, and for losing out to Providence to be New England’s second largest city, is actually a breeding ground for some interesting web media? It would appear so. Pete covers it well over on his blog, but let me add on to the conversation as well here and help in the tooting of our own horn for a post or three.

Now something like this doesn’t happen over night, and frankly…we would be getting way ahead of ourselves if we thought that the revolution has already happened and that there was no more work to be done. In fairness, this is the loading of the gun that comes before the shot heard ’round the world. The foundation has been poured if you will, and is just about dried and ready to be built upon.

To get to this point, a handful of people worked hard. Often for their own entertainment, and amusement. Often with no one noticing, and almost always getting little or no monetary reward or acclaim. These people built things they thought were cool, and did things that they hoped others might enjoy, and if people came, and people noticed…well…that’d be kind of cool. If they didn’t come, or didn’t notice…well…that’d be ok too.

So thanks. Thanks to these people for being part of something. Thanks for toiling away for what you believed in and for what you thought was cool. Thanks for the conversations that have helped to make me smarter, and for the ideas and creations that have forced me to raise the bar with the things I have created online. You guys are the ones that push this city forward, and you should be proud.
