A little while back, I sang the praises of PBS’s Austin City Limits over at Music-Post.com, and even explained that the show is so good, that I was once hooked into an entire 30 minute set by Jason Mraz. Yes, Jason Mraz. As luck would have it, Jason and about 75 other bands ranging from The Dirty Dozen Brass Band to Coldplay, will be setting up shop in Austin this September for the aptly named Austin City Limits Music festival.
I am not generally one that gets excited for music festivals, as I prefer smaller, more intimate shows…but this lineup looks pretty amazing. For a paltry $105, you get a three day pass which amounts to something like $1.40 per band (providing you see every band), which is not a bad deal at all. It sure as hell beats $300 to watch a menopausal Madonna lip synch through Like a Virgin and Vogue between trying to convert 15,000 bored fans to Kabala. Anyways, here are the highlights of the lineup in my opinion. The full list is here.
The Black Crowes
Wilco
Thievery Corporation
Arcade Fire
Death Cab for Cutie
Built to Spill
Bloc Party
The Walkmen
Spoon
The Decemberists
The Bravery
M83
The New Amsterdams
Ambulance Ltd
Maybe they will take a cue from another Austin music festival and offer a monstrous bit-torrent highlighting this year’s lineup.
