Adobe Buys Macromedia for $3.4 Billion

Good god. I guess it is worth $3.4 billion in stock to crush your only remaining competition and plant your flag as the only creative software company on the planet. The only comparison I can really make here is if Coke bought Pepsi. So much for competition. I guess if the next Adobe Creative Suite includes Dreamweaver and Flash, in addition to the normal goodies, it may really be worth the $1200 price tag. So given that they have locked up my purchase, that only leaves about $3,399,998,800 of sales left to go before they break this one even. Totally do-able.

File this one under the “stunned look of amazement” category. Approved by both boards of directors, Macromedia stockholders will receive approximately 0.69 common shares of Adobe stock for each Macromedia share held. Going off of Macromedia’s Friday afternoon numbers, this works out to approximately US$41.9 per share in a deal that’s estimated at around US$3.4 billion in total.
