Google Down Briefly

This is not something you see every day. Google seemed to have a small hiccup tonight at about 8:20pm EST. Was unable to access the site for about 30-45 seconds. It wasn’t my connection I don’t believe, since everything else was movin and groovin just fine…

NERD ALERT

We refer to the tech team at my 9-5 job as “the nerdery“. It isn’t anything insulting and they know this. It is a term of endearment, and they actually embrace it. Through a series of random events, we put together this little page which we all find hilarious. Feel free to keep it in your favorites and call it up whenever you find your co-workers slipping into full on nerd-speak.

Before you jump all over the concept, it is a complete ripoff of, and ode to, one of the greatest sites ever developed – Yourethemannowdog.com.

Side note…these sites only work in Internet Explorer and have sound. I know, I know…just deal with it.

An Apology To My I.E. Friends

A strange shift seems to have happened over the past few months. Like most people out there, I used to use Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 100% of the time when browsing and designing for the web. And like many people, I completely ignored Mozilla, Netscape, and any other non-Microsoft browser when it came to cross-compatibility. “Screw them” I thought, they can use I.E. or they can find another site. Shame on me.

Recently, this all changed (sort of) when I discovered the wonders of Firefox and was converted over to the dark side without ever looking back. However, I was still guilty of the same “If it looks ok in MY browser…” mentality and began to ignore issues of poor display in good old Internet Explorer. Shame on me again.

This gross neglect of cross-compatibility was brought to my attention today when I realized that for the past few weeks, the menu on this site was virtually unreadable in I.E. due to a font sizing issue in the CSS. Number one, I apologize for the mistake. Number two, PLEASE tell me if and when you see something like this so that I can fix it. GOD! IDIOT!

2005 Grammys – The Earliest Coverage Ever

Ok, so it is five minutes into the Grammys there are two things on my mind. First, I am amazed and pleased that they were somehow able to cram every crappy band on to a single stage all at once for one giant clusterfuck performance. I feel like I am ahead of the game already knowing now for sure that I will be spared full performances from each of these artists, and that is a giant relief. It really was a very impressive setup. They even had everyone playing/singing at once providing a glorious 5 minute one-hit-wonderfest that sounded like a weird grammy version of elimi-band.

Second, when is that god damned Black Eyed Peas song (Let’s Get It Started) going to be retired once and for all from opening every sporting event, political rally, and awards show? Isn’t there some sort of statute of limitations on things like this? I feel like this song is getting dangerously close to National Anthem territory in terms of it’s predetermined spot in every event ever.

Ok…one more thing. I hope this doesn’t turn into a huge Ray Charles love-in. Look, you never bought his albums or really listened to his music before. Please don’t jump on the dead artist bandwagon and start jerking him off publicly because he died and the guy from living color is up for an Oscar for his biopic. Gag me.
